I like the price but I went to newegg.com and read some reviews. For the most part they were good. However, there were a lot of bad recent reviews. Mostly about not working on initial installation, going bad very quickly and a few other complaints.
This may be a bad batch but who knows.
With that in mind, I would look elsewhere.

Newegg reviews are as reliable as a politician's promises. ;)

Got anywhere else to check on users likes/dislikes about an item?

Ya...here. Exactly where he's asking. What we usually do is weigh in on our use and if we haven't used it...have the knowledge of why theirs negatives or do the leg work on nailing down all actually good reviews to put out avatar's stamp on that reply.

Samsung is generally sketchy. They have several drives that went south quick, including an F3 line. However their 1TB F3 is still out there, breaking records for the spindle speed, and not failing. I'd get the Samsung 1TB F3 if you can sacrifice 500G. If not, I'd move on to the 2TB Western Digital kind...any type.

Samsung is just generally the IBM Deskstar of drives. Mostly fail, but some get winners at some point. When Samsung make it "green", I doubt even more. Their head just hasn't been in the PC game for a while now. DVD burners and one 1TB drive? I think they want to be in the living room, not PC's (that's all DVR's need...a drive and one good HDD). I've had my faults with Seagate, but I'm more livid with Samsung HDD failures...and that hurt for me to even say; cause I'm not happy with Seagate drives. Lose data once, OK...lose data octal and Chum ain't happy. I'm only up to hex with Seagate. And I even give Seagate credit on that one line of 250G/500G series of drives.

To add pain: I got "upgraded" to a Samsung DVR with the Cable company. It has a Seagate drive. I went backards, cause it ain't got shit on the Scientific Atlantic I had. Drive clacks, stalls, and it locks up fast-forwarding or reversing. Just opinion, but these names seem to keep coming up and I don't believe in coincidence.
