So you have /etc/default/grub -- try making it look like this, run sudo update-grub, and then post the new /boot/grub/grub.cfg after testing it

Code:
# If you change this file, run 'update-grub' afterwards to update
# /boot/grub/grub.cfg.

GRUB_DEFAULT=0
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=10
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=false
GRUB_TIMEOUT=10
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""

# Uncomment to disable graphical terminal (grub-pc only)
#GRUB_TERMINAL=console

# The resolution used on graphical terminal
# note that you can use only modes which your graphic card supports via VBE
# you can see them in real GRUB with the command `vbeinfo'
#GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480

# Uncomment if you don't want GRUB to pass "root=UUID=xxx" parameter to Linux
#GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_UUID=true

# Uncomment to disable generation of recovery mode menu entries
#GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_RECOVERY="true"

# Uncomment to get a beep at grub start
#GRUB_INIT_TUNE="480 440 1"

I got GRUB to show before Ubuntu boots and there is no Windows XP option.

FWIW, I seem to remember ubuntu had a gui tool that you could use to add/remove entries and avoid the terminal.

Thanks for all your help guys. But I think this is to much trouble and is going no where. I got a copy of Windows 7 from a friend to try it out and like it so far. I'm going to save money to buy windows 7. Thanks for all your help though.

Alright, I have a solution for you.

Download the pdf of MaxPC's June 2010 issue (available on their website) and turn to page 23.

You'll find instructions for installing Win7 on a USB key. Do so.

Boot from the USB into Windows 7, locate your Windows drive on your hard drive and backup any data that you want to keep.

Now hose that annoying HDD completely, repartition and install Win7, then Ubuntu.

Done! :)

I've got a feeling that he's already hosed his Windows install. That's I suggested he try to repair the install. He'll know really quick whether there still is a partition with Windows.

The Friend that gave me the Win7 DVD didn't like Win7 so He gave me his Activation Info and Downgraded to XP (He did deactivate 7) so I took what I needed from my Win XP partition and and merged the two partitions together. I'll go and repartition my HDD and reinstall Ubuntu later and see what happens.
