Sure why not. From the looks of it the radio seems similar in size of a 3.5" hard drive. Maybe a little bigger. Cool idea.

actually it is smaller I manage to find the Dimensions
1-3/8 x 4-1/2 x 6-1/2 inches (HWD) (35mm X 115mm X 165mm)
http://support.radioshack.com/support_e ... 8/8781.htm

I was thinking of using a gutted out old CD drive for a metal shell and mount it into it sort of like a rack. The only thing I may have to do is recess it back alittle bit because of the door.

This is my Idea:

I did this
Image

To modify the part of the drive that has a magnet thing on the top of the drive that locks the disc to stable it.

The enclosure portion

The drive that I gutted was a LG CD-R/CD-RW Model CED-8080B

I mainly have to make a face for it and set it were it does not interfere with my tower door.

Open the CB up and rewire the sound output to the front-panel line-in on your mobo or sound card.

Download Audacity and you can then record and manage the data.

That's a cool idea but what are you thinking of doing for a face plate to cover the space on the sides and to keep it cool in the drive enclosure? Does the CB even get that warm the you would need a heat sink for it? if you cut a small area near the hinge you should be able to mount the mic on the outside. while leaving it connected :)

I was not sure if it would get hot but, I know that anything that has any kind of amplification can at the minimum get warm.
