Maximum PC

I'm looking to learn as much as I can about computers, any free classes/ internet sites that help/ book to read that can help me understand most basics and more?

With a question as vague as that, the only answer is www.google.com

I'm interested and am just looking for any specifics that have helped any of you

Software? Hardware? PCs? Programming? Networking?

I know you were looking for free, but in my opinion the best thing would be to look at one of the A+ certification books. It won't teach you everything but will give you a firm foundation in computer basics.

I would recommend the CompTIA A+ Certification All-in-One Exam Guide, Seventh Edition. You don't have to go for the certification, just read the book.

Other than that, I'm not sure I can recommend anything with such a vague question.

In this case I would definitely recommend these forums. We cover just about everything under the sun. Anything you want or need to learn more about your second best friend besides google will be wikipedia. I'm getting to really like that site. Don't understand something there come back here to the appropriate forum and ask away.

As far as that book goes does that cover everything that's needed for the current version of the a+ certification test? is everything up to date if i were to buy the book as preparation for the test?

Yes, A+ is relatively simple to get. However, if I were you, I would focus on getting the knowledge rather than the cert. Memorizing is easy, retaining is harder. Retained knowledge will be much easier to apply and use. Whereas the laser printer printing process for example is useless for me (at least for now), but is on the test.

Theres also the CompTIA A+ Certification All-in-one for Dummies. Im assuming it would be similar to the examination handbook. The Dummies book has practice questions similar to what is on the exam at the end of each chapter (along with the answers). Also it comes with a CD that has practice tests on both parts of the A+ exam. Its the book I used for the PC maintenance course at my college. You can find it for around $30.00.
