I took my rig outside, took each component out, placed them on the picnic table and blew air threw every nook and cranny of my case (CM Stacker). Then blew off each component (TV Tuner, SB X-fi, and 2 nVidia 8800's) before I put them back in.

Wow... took my CPU down 9 C (48.2 F) while idle.
CPU down from 37C to 28C (AMD x4 940 w/Zalman 9700)

MB and Chipset down from 54C to 44C (Crosshair II 780a)

Video cards came down about 8 C
From 63 C down to 55 C

For temp monitoring.. I use Everest Ultimate 5.30

Great time for Spring cleaning!

I'm going around to the bud's, grabbing the PC's, and giving them a good once over. One in particular was full of carpet smelly stuff. It was just covered in fine white dust that smelled like Lavender and Vanilla. Mine in the house have pet dander which is hard to stay up on if just let go.

I've seen bigger changes then that even. Once got a laptop that was overheating- removed a dust bunny from the HSF and CPU load temp went to from a shutdown at 90C (only took about a minute to get there, so without temp safeguards it surely would have gone over 100C) to 70C under 100% load. That, my friend, is a huge difference.

So you're going around and "smelling" white dust? Sounds like you've got some good friends...

Cleaning out winter or 4 year old dust bunnies helps a lot and some new thermal grease can do wonders too!

Yea...cleaning out my HP laptop's vents don't seem to work very well. Just playing CS:S after about 15 minutes makes it over heat and stutter.

LOL that is funny!

Cleaning a computer reminds me of a job I got about 10 or 12 years ago. A medical company called and told me they were having problems with their main frame randomly going down and it was so old that no one would even look at it.

I showed up and they had a fan in front of it and I asked what that was for and they said that it would not crash as often with the fan placed where it was. The unit was on a carpeted floor...

You can see where this is going.

I opened the computer and it was packed, I mean packed with filth. I asked if they had a vacuum cleaner ... I used it to pull as much gross #$%$ out as possible and then proceeded to clean it in a normal manner.

I don't think I will ever forget that incident.

LOL...it wasn't like that. Pulled the panel off and it's an instant sense thing; you see it, and then the smell hits. It's not like this is a drug mule device :D We'd be more in the Green Party anyway, and that would be gooie, tacky, and harder to "blow" out.

If it's Anthrax, then I'm just testing my shots. /me flinches a bit.
