OK, just to let you all know before you blow your money. Do not buy the Asus CD5275, or even ANY model of this line, if you are planning on using any Nvidea graphics card.

There is a hardware based compatibility issue which results in a hard lock on your system. Not a BSOD, but a hard lock. The system simply freezes, mid-note, mid-frame, whatever. The only solution is to do a hard re-start of your system.

I have done extensive research online, and though some have solved their problem by upgrading BIOS and drivers, others have tried the same fixes and NADA.

The only reliable fix for this is to go buy an ATI card, which in my opinion is a crap card, compared to nvidea...

Anyway, just a heads up for all of you. Nice machine otherwise...

That is odd, given that the desktop appears to ship with an integrated nvidia GPU.

Perhaps the problem lies with improper driver removal / installation? A lot of people have trouble installing an add-in card in a system that has integrated graphics.

Agree. I can't see how a product with onboard nVidia can have issues with nVidia. What's the problems you're having or have had, and have you tried this very forum to fix them before tossing them in the pound?That's a bold statement to make too. Only held the top card linage since last October. Still do in many wider-open eyes.

I agree. It IS an odd problem, But I am not the only one who had the problem. As I was searching for the solution, there were many, MANY people who had the same problem, including the ones who actually bought a machine that shipped with the nvidea cards installed. The only reliable solution that anyone reported was ditching the nvidea cards, and going with the ati.

Believe me, I tried long and hard to find the solution. Asus denied that there WAS a problem when I contacted them, even though I pointed them to multiple forums addressing the problem.

AS for trying this forum before, no. I posted here in the proper spot today also, in hopes that someone would know a solution that nobody else has been able to find...

Well, I'll tell ya what, the ATI card I have is already starting to die on me, and its been under 3 months. Thats 2 out of 2 ATI cards I've had that dies a horrible death in well under a year. '

Perhaps I just have bad luck, but Nvidea has ALWAYS been much more reliable, and far better graphics, for me.

You know, I've had the complete opposite experience with Nvidia .

I'm currently running a Radeon HD 5770 and it is the most stable card I've ever run. I also have a X1950GT that works fine, but I did RMA once because performance went down. Got a new card back and back to normal.

Where to begin on Nvidia...My 8800GTX kept screen flashing (sent to someone else and it died), my 9600GSO artifacted and I had to RMA to eVGA, my 9800GX2 randomly switched primary displays, and my 9800GT gets excessively hot.

What ATI card are you currently using?

Maybe you just happened to get the bad one from a large batch at the store? *knock on wood* but i don't think that cards just "don't work" for users if they haven't successfully updated drivers and bios (where applicable). Usually those things will fix the issue after a reboot or two, so the having to buy a new card seems like a more expensive "fix" to the OP issue.

have you checked motherboard compatibility beforehand? maybe its a bad PCi slot or a bad card? is it locking up your system whilst gaming or idling?

my most recent issues with a similar problem were with an older NVIDIA card, but the card ended up being very old, not cleaned, and used when they bought it, half the caps decided to blow out on the card, causing a similar issue than yours.

Honestly I've never had a graphics card die prematurely on me. Had a Radeon 9250 that died on me recently, first graphics card I've ever had die on me. Just recently brought an old rig back to life with a Riva TNT. Still running a Radeon 9600 in an old rig. I have a Radeon HD 4870 1GB, GeForce 9800GT, GeForce GT 240, and Radeon HD 3650 as well, and all run perfectly.

No, the card is good. I'm still using it in another computer I have, and it is working beautifully. It is ONLY this machine.

And no, it is not just that I got the bad one. Do a google search for the model number and locking up. You will see MANY posts from MANY different people, including people who got this same machine with an Nvidea card pre-installed. There IS an issue with this model and Nvidea cards. I'm not saying it is the card. In face, exactly the opposite. If it was just me, yes, I would have said the same.

The fact is, its not just me. There are literally dozens of people with the same issue turned up with a casual search.

Believe me, I was shocked also. Asus has a good name, as far as I can tell...

Give some meat then to put a period on the story. What ATI cards are you slamming in these things? PowerColor? Let's rule out the obvious.

Never answered my question either: did you try to solve this with our free tech support? The answer is no...you're not in there for a single post. Your conclusion is your own, and only yours until then.

OK, well, if I haven't tried the free tech support, why do I have an email telling me I have a reply waiting in the free tech support forum?

And I'm not "slamming" anything. I'm simply giving a heads up to people who do not like ATI cards. I have had bad experienced with both of the ATI cards I have used.

And if you had actually read my post, you would have seen that I said it was my opinion that they are not as good.

If you give no evidence, then you could just as well have a DOA board, or just a problem with that particular board.

"Both"!? So you tried two and have 100% failure. It's either the brand...or you.

With this posting, I have the exact opposite reaction as well; and I don't buy one or two video cards or brands a year. I've had a lot in my time, and I've really only had one fail that wasn't my causing. It had a warranty, and I returned it...it was an nVidia. I've bought several new ATI's since the 2900 line picked up the pace and of them, only me cracking the core from being hamfisted on a waterblcok had it start giving graphical errors. Still worked, but it had issues when stressed.

I've also bought many refurb and open box nVidia cards that are still working today. They were bought errantly, or I suspect the user had an error and thought the card was actually bad for a return. Basically, of the cards that have been through here, I have very few drop outs (1) and of the refurbs/openbox, they all work. This always has me pointing at the last owner.

Remember the big nVidia fallout debate? At that time, it was mostly eVGA brands catching the flack. And wouldn't you know it...eVGA had oodles of cards on the egg in refurb fashion to buy up. Not Asus, XFX, BFG, MSI, or any of the others...eVGA were en mass. So given that, would I put nVidia under the bus? Nope...I'd think logically and put eVGA under the treads.

We should just all try all resorts to fix a problem before it lands in the Pound. The pound is the last resort, not the first, to picking apart a company. If I screwed up in my daily life, I'd think I'd try to resolve it first before going to court. This...is court.

Well, its not me. I do this for a living. The ONLY cards I've ever had fail were ATI.

Again, if anyone is thinking of buying this product, do some research first. Google the model number and Nvidea and see what comes up.

Well I aint the sharpest tack in the drawer. However I tried googeling your model number and all I get is 4 garbage links and 1 link back to this thread.

For all the bad mouthing, you need to post exactly what you have in that machine. Or at least, put forth the effort to include a link to that specific machine with all the options you ordered it with. It might help to include the specs on the video cards in question or maybe the mobo specs including the chipset installed thereon. You can't expect much meaningful help with out giving some real information.

There's lots of people needing help or having issues. It seems only common curtesy to provide the info you have readily to hand up front rather than wasting our time jumping thru hoops looking up your specs.

Yeah, even I'm an nVidia fanboy, but it's true that the supposed dozens of others having this issue are non-existent. ASUS makes kickass products with shitty warranties, lol, but kickass products nonetheless. I especially don't see them shipping out a vast amount of computers which have huge problems galore, as you described.

shitty warranty? I just got a broken Asus mobo Cross-shipped for me. More than most companies would do.

Yes, I would have to say that their warranty, compared to some, is shitty. I've seen a 50/50 solution and satisfaction rate with them, from multiple end-users, including myself. The very least they could do is upgrade the time frame of their warranties, such as from 1 year up to 2, 3 or even 5. I guess one of the worst parts of their warranty is the tie-in of their customer service, which I've noticed to be mediocre at best. The only thing I may ever use them for is motherboards, as those tend to be rock-solid performers, however I won't use them for video cards, etc.

My P5Q3 has a 3-year warranty... I had it cross-shipped after 2 years of owning it. I'm not seeing it man, never had a problem with Asus customer service. And they've supposedly vastly improved their customer service lately. I did notice that all the support correspondence now has links to report the CSA and rate the help they provided.
