Maximum PC

Ive looked for this processor and cant find it any where. I have looked on the manufactures website and its not listed so Iam moving on but would like some help.

I have a
eVGA 680i with q6600 2.4GHz Zalman 9700 cooler
2GB Corsair duel channel (going to 4GB)
Ati 4870
Hard Drive not worth listing cause I will be getting new one
PSU case Corsair 850tx / Gigabyte 3D AURORA

The help I am looking for is what CPU should I get on this platform (best bang for buck)

The CPU you currently have is the best bang for buck CPU that is compatible with that motherboard.

If you play games a lot, you might benefit from one of the faster E8xxx CPU's, but seems like a bad idea to upgrade an old socket like that.

Your best bet would be to put the upgrade money towards a new socket (1156 or 1366 currently).

I play games alot WoW and CSS is about it I build this computer about a year and half ago and not looking to do another computer (yet)

My wife got my old computer thats still pretty nice .(both play WoW).. But I am looking to beef this one up as much as possible cause someday it will be handed down once again to my wife . Thanks

Save your money and put it towards your next build like hackman said, or let your wife go shopping! 775 died when 1156 was released. The CPU might be worth upgrading if you had a cheap dual core CPU, but that's not the case.

I would purchase the 4Gb of RAM, try to overclock the CPU a little, and call it a day. Ensure the RAM is compatible with your current setup. Hopefully you have a 64-bit OS that can take advantage of it. You already own a nice Zalman cooler so see what you can get out of your Q6600 and dreaded 680i. There's no reason to waste money on a Q6700 - QX6850, or downgrade to a dual core CPU.
