Anyone know if or when nvidia would be coming out with a GTX380 series for notebooks, and whether it would be possible to upgrade my GTX280M's to those?

No. The GTX 380 doesn't, and probably never will, exist. A GTX 480M? Perhaps, but they've got their work cut out for them. Their current next-gen architecture is entirely unsuitable for use in notebooks.
As for upgrading, likely not, but its possible. What notebook do you have?

Just read that Eurocom is going to be coming out with a laptop that has the option for single or SLI GTX480M's, which from what I read is going to be available in June. Unless I read something wrong.

Well, there is the rumor indeed. The GTX 480M is going to have to be a lot less powerful than the current 480M because of power use. Hopefully I'm wrong. Also, does your M980NU have one or two 280Ms? It's unlikely that a 480M will work with it, but to increase performance you can buy a second 280M and SLi it. Honestly, otherwise its difficult. That's what you signed onto when you bought a high-end notebook: poor performance for the price, poor battery life, and very limited upgradeability.

I already have 2 GTX280M's in SLI right now, but the 480M's and mine both have the same connection type, MXM 3.0 Type-B so I think it could work to change them out.

What about the thermals? They probably run much hotter.
