Maximum PC

As my long subject says I am looking for the linux os with the fastest boot time that will run boxee. And instructions to install boxee on auto boot. I only know Ubuntu linux so anything else I get lost in.

Then why are you asking for alternatives with a faster boot time?

If speed is what you're looking for (on bootup or otherwise) then Ubuntu isn't a great place to look. It's like trying to build a race car out of a Buick LeSabre. Ubuntu is meant to be "comfortable" for lack of a better term and easy to use, even by those who aren't terribly tech-savvy. Unfortunately, much like GM's cars, Ubuntu has had some odd quirks and can be buggy for some (ooooooh, domestic auto burn!)

For quick bootup and a minimal system for running boxee, you'll want to check out Gentoo or Slackware. Patience, Jack Daniels and 3 to 5 sleepless nights should suffice to scratch the surface.

bootwise, Ubuntu is nowhere close to booting fast.
Now you CAN make apps load faster by installing 'prelink'.
My Firefox loads in 2 or 3 seconds .

Personally I use XBMC standalone with Ubuntu 9.04 for my HTPC / Media Center. Jaunty is rock solid and has excellent boot times. In comparison to 9.10 and 10.04 versions of Ubuntu (I know because I have tried and there is simply too much going on under the hood) it to this day remains stable. Just remember to patch it up to the latest levels before installing your media center.
