Hey all, for my end-of-year project in my middle school, I'm modding an older case that a friend donated. The mods will include a coat of paint, a power supply mod (including a paint job and new fan), an LED board, a front fan cutout, a side window, and maybe some others.

Here's the case:

And here's the primer coat:

And the final coat for the chassis:

Not bad for two rattlecans and some primer.

The front panel:

I'm going to work on the PSU next. Those pics will be up soon.
Thanks for reading!

Nicely done! You should clear coat the paint job so it doesn't get scratched up so easily.

I'm on the fence about that because I have a tight budget (part of the project), but it would look nice. I may in the future.

I went red crazy on this project but I love that shade so I'm happy.
I was really impressed with the fan. 5 bucks gets you a quiet, high quality fan that is sleeved! It's a Rosewill btw.

One I wish I had been able to go to when I was a teenager!

Nice work, CFM. My case is similar; never thought about red for a paint job. :D

It's a school for the "gifted" or academically talented. NOVA is the name, but all you have to meet for the project is:

1. Has to push your boundaries ie you have never done something like it before.
2. Has to be under 100 dollars.
3. You have to get 20 hours total work time.

And I've met all of those. :D

Hey guys, I finished the LED board with help from this guide. Here's the pics. This will be mounted in a 5 1/4 bay.

I'll get pics of it running asap.

Looks great so far. It's cool that you have the opportunity for projects like this in your middle school. A+ work.

Sorry it's been so long since i've updated, but I've had a lot of various things to do. I finished cutting the window hole:

Prepping the panel with painter's tape.

I used chrome door liner picked up from the local auto shop for the window.

The only things left are mounting the LED meter, mounting the window, and making the front bezel fan. I think i'll use the same chrome to line the fan.

That is a really sweeet job there. Ya know from the looks of your video, if you could sequence those flashing red LEDs, that front fan would look like it's on fire. flames and all. 8)
