Hello,

I just received a comp from a friend but had to get a new (used) hdd. I want to try ubuntu 64. Do I reformat as a secondary drive on my xp machine and install it then or put it in the new comp and do the reformat/install there?

Thanks,
Trent

The install will ask you where you want to partition and format.

You may want to start with a unpartitioned space though, or use something like Wubi.

I've got the 2nd drive in the xp machine. I went into comp management and initialized when the pop up came. it shows as disk 1, basic, online with the full drive unallocated. When I right click the option is to make it a dynamic drive. Is this what I need to do? I want to format and install Ubuntu and then move it to the other comp.

If you're going to put Ubuntu on that drive, don't even bother doing anything with it under Windows. The Ubuntu installer will handle all the partitioning and formatting.
