Why is it that I cannot have both Microphone and "What U Hear" enabled on my sound card at the same time?

Disabling the Microphone lets me use "What U Hear" but when Microphone is enabled, "What U Hear" is unavailable.

where did you find that? I have the X-Fi and Win7 and I dont have a "what U hear" (from "sounds" in control panel I presume) option? just says "mic," "line in," and "S/PDIF in" in that window.

never really messed with it though.. fresh build.

I am pretty sure "what you hear" is enabled, but it is muted in your control panel.

That, or you could try to plug your mic into the front panel.

Its called DRM. MS/Creative software does that so you can't make exact copies of your CD audio disks. I know its really stupid as you can copy CD or DVD or even rip it to your machine. But it is because of DRM.

WTF? It has nothing to do with DRM. It's just some settings that need played with. Creative cards are just crypic in their mixer board and have been for about 5 years now. No one's ripping music over the microphone but 1st graders. Recording broadcasts and catching music on the feed is another aspect, but still possible and not killed by DRM. I do it constantly with the X-Fi and GuitarRig so that I have the backing tracks.

Every time I sign on to chat with MPC mates, I have to go through a bazaar Haitian chicken dance with X-Fi settings, but it's repeatable and possible.

What you hear brings in massive feedback though. It plays back what you hear. If you talk, it plays you back talking. It might not even be the angle you're wanting to pursue. But if you want, you can get WYH enabled in Win7.

Now I gotta do the chicken dance again to get WYH OFF.
