I'm planning on building a computer in the summer, and while looking for possible parts, I found that none of the cases out there looked anything close to tasteful.
I've been there, I've wanted a case that lit up like (pardon the unoriginality) a christmas tree. I've always thought that those "sleek and sexy" cases were made moot by the pile of empty pop cans sitting next to it.
But now I'm tired of all the clutter, cords, and crap, and I'm going to make an honest effort to keep my workspace clean, and I figure that having a nice-looking pc case will inspire me.
So, my original idea consisted of hiding my computer (no case, just the parts) in a piece of furniture. A simple ikea contraption would look nice and maybe even save me money vs. an expensive lian-li case or some sort.
Keep in mind I lack any power tools or handyness. I did make some rather nice speaker stands for very cheap though, so I try not to underestimate myself. I am willing to purchase a dremel, if need be.
The first problem I ran into was airflow, anyone can get air into a case, and anyone can get air out, my only concern was whether or not it would actually do anything. So that sort of killed my ikea plan, since nothing really did what i was looking for. (i want no visible airholes)(except of course on the back).
So this is the design i came up with, to be made from scratch. i have no idea if its even possible. its quite large (everything is to scale) but i think the look fits. I wasn't really thinking about it, but looking at it now, it looks frank lloyd wright inspired. (although now that i think about it, he probably would have designed a desktop chassis instead of a tower).
my biggest concern is those square metal hoops, any ideas how to make those? theres no cd drive, im going external (is that considered cheating the the case mod world?).
