Yes, I know there are many other threads on UPS delivery drivers and such, but this one is about the company itself.

I ordered a netbook on 7/12/09. It shipped out on 7/14/09 and was set to arrive on 7/17/09 (today) because I ordered 3-day shipping.

Well, it updated fine until it got to Kansas (a state away from me), then it stopped updating. It didn't update at all yesterday. I checked today and still nothing, no out for delivery or anything.

I call UPS and find out that what I'm looking at is a day behind what they are seeing. The package was unloaded YESTERDAY, but I don't have that update. WTF UPS? Shouldn't I have that update too?

Since it's a state away, it won't be coming today as they promised. Instead it will come at some other point next week, but they don't know when.

What the hell? You pay for 3-day and get lied to? If they would have said Monday or Tuesday right off, I wouldn't be pissed. But when your site says "On Time" as of this post, I get pissed.

OK.

I'm going to have to retract most of my comments from above.

The netbook was delivered today (7/17/09) at 5:38pm.

So everything is fine now.

Their tracking system did not update the status of the package, so I remain irked about that, but it's here and that's all that matters.

So their tracking system sucks (in my opinion).

All tracking systems suck. I once had a tracking system say that a package was delievered and signed for, which wasn't true. I don't even remember the company. They sucked though.

UPS has been great and fast for me almost every time. Since newegg ships most of their stuff out of Nashville (I live in St. Louis) I get my stuff in 2-days with the 3-5 day shipping. its great. Always had undamaged products until recently. Ordered a 350W SeaSonic PSU to replace a cheap PSU that fried in my brother's computer. UPS banged up the box terribly, and sure enough, when I picked up the PSU, something was rattling around inside it and it didn't power up. Here's where the awesome part begins. I call newegg support, they say they'll take it back, but right now that PSU is out of stock. Would it be okay if they send me a 420W PC Power & Cooling unit instead?
It would be quite fine. :D
For the most part, though, I've had a great experience with UPS. My delivery guy is always the same one, a real nice and talkative guy. I think his name is Jeff... don't remember.

I Have seen first hand how UPS treats their packages. While I was in school I worked at a small car audio shop. Every day UPS would show up, back into the garage, open the back door of the truck, and just start winging boxes out the back onto the garage floor. These were boxes with stereos, amps, subs, you name it. They don't care, even if they know its fragile. I am very hesitant to order things like PSUs and have them shipped UPS. More beefy items I dont mind, but anything delicate I am most likely to go to a brick and mortar because I hate paying return shipping for RMAs.

I personally love UPS.

My dad owned a Snap-On Tools franchise for about 3 years so we were getting huge deliveries about 3 times a week. Same UPS guy every time and my dad and I made buddies with him. He was even nice enough to bring treats for our dog. (He would put our boxes in the backyard since they was always expensive stuff coming.) Business is long and gone but same guy delievers my newegg stuff everytime I order.

I had to RMA something out and went to my local UPS store. The service was awesome and friendly and it was delivered when it said it would be.

UPS ftw :)

yeah I agree. The service is awesome, I also have the same UPS guy that is friendly and everything. I would really love them if not for the fact that they banged up my packages so often.

UPS visited my high school a when we were still in session. A driver spoke in my drivers ed class (woohoo!). I'm generally pleased with UPS. The only thing I don't like is that we're the last house on the route for our driver, so I always get crap at like 5:00 PM which kind of sucks. Then again, I'm more likely to be home to receive it. Yet again though, my guy doesn't actually make me sign for anything, which I like. That'd be different if my only neighbors weren't black bears and stray dogs I suppose.

What I hate is Fed-Ex ground. Its funny how when I order 2 things that are shipped from California, one UPS, the other FFed-Ex Ground, the fed-ex takes 7 days to deliver, and the UPS takes 3 (this wasnt even 3 day ups )

yeah, they're fast because they deliver themselves. I live in St.Louis, and so since most of newegg's stuff is shipped from Nashville, I get it overnight! its so awesome, I get the expensive shipping without paying for it. FedEx, on the other hand, takes 3 days from the same place.

Over here, it's the other way around. Fedex is faster than UPS.

Of course we live near one of their stops, so that could be it.

Don't get me wrong. Our UPS guy was awesome. Way more social than the fed-ex guy. He also could have dropped the packages at our back door but instead he would bring them all the way to our stock room. The service was excellent, but it was very apparent that he could care less for the contents of his packages. Which seems to be a common theme throughout the ups delivery process.

UPS
the great dissapointment
alas they are not what they used to be!

I used to get stellar service now, not so much.

I had to schlep 40 miles to get a package from their "local" facility. Nope, cant drop it at the UPS STORE a mile from here, you dont have a "box" there. Nope cant come by at a better time, for the price we charged, no scheduling of delivery time for your package.

I will NEVER
NEVER
use ups to ship anything!

They have become what is wrong with the whole delivery for hire system.

FOR NOW ON ITS US MAIL

I've had mixed experiences with UPS. They're usually very fast, and they'll bring my packages to the front office if I'm not home. By contrast, FedEx rarely even bothers to leave a note saying they attempted delivery.

But a lot of my packages shipped by UPS show obvious signs of abuse. Luckily, only one thing has actually been damaged... an HDTV that arrived split down the middle, with cuts and gashes all over the box.

Overall I'm satisfied, though I do often worry about whether my orders will arrive in one piece or two.

Take this from a guy that actually works at UPS.

It is a union job. There is very little care for quality of work at my hub. Stuff is thrown, stepped on, piled on, and what not.

As for the tracking problem, that is again the loaders. When a package is loaded, it should be scanned by the loader. Sometimes if it gets real busy, they don't scan it. Other times the bar code just wont scan due to many reasons. Finally, at the end of the night, the last few boxes are typically just thrown into the last truck with little regard to scanning.

These things happen. If the worst thing that happens is that the tracking isn't updated just consider yourself lucky.

Your shipping not updating could be because someone forgot to scan the package when it was loaded / unloaded. Human error does happen ;)

Dude, you posted to a three month old thread and said pretty much the same thing that has already been said. Our rules say you shouldn't post to a thread more than 30 days old unless you have pertinent information. Please avoid dredging up old threads in the future.
