I can manually configure squid but what I really want is something like a Dan's Guardian/IP Cop or an endian firewall, smoothwall has been looked at as well.

I want a caching proxy, content filter, possible email filter, controls over IM protocols, and if possible a web portal with access rules. Endian does about 95% of what I want in the community edition but that will require me reconfiguring other aspects of my home network. Are there other options you can recommend? I am leaning in that direction but hey, maybe you guys know about a product I missed.

I've used smoothwall for many years. Dan's Guardian is installable. See this link: http://community.smoothwall.org/forum/v ... 49&t=28154

Squid, iptables, and Webmin. I'm sure there's other apps out there for similar stuff but I don't know of any from the top of my head.

I wish I could say I've tried to do what you're doing, but I haven't gone that far yet.
