This is for a class project I am currently working on, I need to find methods for wireless networking several buildings that are in some cases several miles apart. I'm not asking anyone to do my research for me, or to tell me which is better for a particular application, I just want to make sure we've got all the possibilities listed. So far we've got satellite, wimax, wifi, microwaves, free space optics, is there anything that i'm missing?

What's the purpose of the connections? Meaning, are you looking at that type of connection to feed the site or just offer users at the site wireless access...

the goal is to connect several buildings to a central office which would connect the LAN's in the individual buildings together, as well as allowing the the sharing of a single broadband internet connection among all the buildings. The buildings are all different distances apart, ranging from a few hundred meters, to several miles, and some of the buildings have do not have line of sight access to the central office. At this point bandwidth is not a concern, we are just looking for different methods to wirelessly connect these buildings.

There's not much you've missed. I suppose you can add an EDO connection in there.

The reason I ask though, and you're still alluding to two different scenarios, since the buildings would seem to have it's own connection, why not just use a VPN appliance at the site(s) and just use wireless the way you'd expect to do.
