P4 2.8 GHz CPU
2GB PC3200 Ram
Win XP Pro 32 Bit

Its just a dell machine. It gets the job done lol.

Welcome mchype14

It's just that easy.

Use the team number 11108 and you are a valued member of the MaximumPC Team.

You already did another thing that makes you an even more valued member, you posted and said Hey.

We wish everyone would do that.
Many fold quietly and never talk to us.

We can't know they hear our congratulations or anything else that goes on.

You may see people with 25, 50 100 or more thousand points a day and wonder if your contribution is significant.

Please believe me it is.

The many people with one machine and ppd measured in the 50-400 range collectively are a major portion of our teams results for Stanford.

It's all of us together that are the third place team in the world and trying for second.

Please do me a favor and post again on the main forum so everyone can say hello and welcome you to the team.
This thread is here to provide new folks lots of knowledge quickly, but not many on the team will see your post.

Ask questions, read whatever you have time to read on the forum.

Have fun folding

That's all we do here is have fun and fold.

We take both very seriously and work at them.

Not that it will make any real difference, but in your main forum post tell them G sent you there, you may get a little extra ribbing and start the fun sooner

Hey Guys, Ive been a long time reader of Maximum PC and have been building what systems I can afford for the last 10 years or so. I finally got into folding this spring after putting together my last comp.

Intell E8500 3.16GHz OC'ed to 3.63GHz.
MSI P45 NEO2.
Windows XP Pro. SP3.
NVIDIA XFX GTX-260 xxx edition.
4 GHz Patriot Viper PC-8500 1066MHz mem.
Seagate 750 HD.
PC Power & Cooling 610.
Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro.
Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme Gamer.
NZXT Tempest Case.

I currently have 350429 points and am at 499th place in Maximum PC's rankings. I can produce about 5000 points aday running CPU and GPU clients. I visit these forums off and on but I'n not really very social on forums. I love the idea I can actually use my computer for a noble purpose other then gaming or work.

This is my first post and am proud to be part of the Maximum PC Team. Any Ideas to help me produce more. Should I drop in a spare Q6600 in place of the E8500? Ill have to OC it and run Prime 95 on it for awhile and wont be able to fold for a few days.

Welcome Jeff0101

You are doing just great

First I would suggest you just copy and paste the same message right on the main forum.
Many more people will read it and respond.

But let me comment here on not being very social on forums.

Please up your social efforts to include entering the current winter quickie where you will have fantastic odds at winning a brand new Kill-a-Watt meter.

Another will start in a few weeks where you can win 2,000,000 points in 20 days.
many others will run over the winter and entering will not be a problem for you in any of them.

Very limited requirements that you already surpass.

I think you will hear the the Q6600 will enable you to produce more points, but I will leave that for others to provide details.

By the main forum I mean here, verses this sticky at the top of the forum -G

Welcome zippzom

If you're folding for 11108, you are now on automatic.

Although this appears to be a good place to say hello.
it works out better in the main forum than in a sticky.

Many more will see your post and respond.

If you want to list your hardware and OS there, folks will also offer suggestions on what clients would be most productive for you.

When you're over 100 ppd search out the current Winter Quickie contest before the 5th and enter if you don't already have a Kill-a-Watt meter.

Look for more quickies after it's done.

Look around, there is a lot to do and read.

Whatever you do - Have fun folding -G

Hey Guys, L1vingStone here and I've been folding for MaxPc for a few weeks now and I'm loving it. I'm just getting to the point (schedule wise) where I can be a bit present on the folding forums and advocate folding to my friends. I have had the best results running both Nvidia GPU and the CPU client at the same time. Later tonight I'm going to start a designated linux box to run 24/7. Like many of you I am both proud and excited to be involved in this... seems a much better cause than SETI.

We are glad you are enjoying folding.
We all feel it is a great hobby and very worthwhile.
It's great that you have posted, there are a lot of activities to get involved in on the forum.

If you post again on the main forum many more folks will welcome you aboard because they will see your post.

Up here in a sticky only those that have posted here are notified.

Hey all! Just stopping by to say hi. So, HI!

On Oct-30, 2009, I gave up on a 5 year search for prime numbers and am working to convert all of my boxes over to F@H. 5 of 6 are done. Now, I am going off to read more on this forum about setting up and maximizing.

C-ya.

Post your system Specs in the main forum and people will be around shortly to help you get the maximum ppd (points per day) out of your setup :D

Welcome dabart65

We are glad to have you folding with us

Consider following the forum closely, there are many chances to win hardware and more over the year.

SpotLights on fellow folders

The joke thread - it's fun to tell the good ones to your friends
Let other teams members find them for you, some are really good at it.

The monthly quiz can raise a smile or two

What the heck games can prove educational or if you know it all already, a chance to show off.

Folding and fun - That's all we do.

Hi Billcheese! Welcome to team MPC. You might get more/better answers if you post in the main forum:

http://www.maximumpc.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=32

Points are awarded when a work unit (WU) is submitted to Stanford (when the WU is done). Points are maintained on the Stanford servers, but are actually a bit hard to get since since they are constantly not taking requests whenever there is a point update going on. Most people use the Extreme OverClocking Orgs stats pages. Here is the stats for team MPC:

http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_summary.php?s=&t=11108

Then you poke around to find the name you are folding under (folding user name). If you tell us the name you are folding under, I can find the link for you.

Welcome billcheese5

Here is a little new folder information and hopefully a few laughs - Click Here -

After you are comfortable with folding, we have many more activities designed to make folding fun.

Fun and folding - that's all we do

As dabart65 said the main forum will expose you to more people, help and ideas

You should just edit the first post and in the very top, include a link to download the client and have the team number. I read the very long post and didn't find the team number.
