Alright,
So I'm looking for a laptop for college. I haven't bought one yet because I was waiting for the free windows 7 upgrade, but since that is available now I am looking for one.

Heres the one I am looking at:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6834147995

Basically I'm looking for a laptop that handle anything I'm going to throw at it, whether it be new games, video encoding, dvd burning-- anything that requires a pretty beefy computer. I really like the fact that it has the GeForce GT 130M and that it has a pretty powerful cpu and a large enough hard drive. Little things such as battery life aren't problem because I can always upgrade the battery. The only thing I'm not so sure about is how reliable it is.

The computer I have now I bought in 2002 and it still runs great, the only reason I believe it still runs so well is because I've always taken great care of it. I plan on doing the same for whichever laptop I buy, and I want it to last as long as possible. If anyone knows hp's reputation for laptops, this model's reputation, or a better deal I would greatly appreciate it. This laptop comes with a 1 year limited warranty and I believe I have the option of choosing a 2 or 3 year warranty for a few hundred more, but is that really necessary?

My budget is preferrably below $1000.

Thanks alot for your time and any help I get in advance. :)

tl;dr : I'm looking for the best deal, most reliable, fastest laptop for college for about $1000.

Again, that GPU is not the best especially at that price. Check out my other post for suggestions. Notably the last one.

I swear that was $999 when I posted that, now they want 50 more bones....

If you can still find this one its actually wayy better. (And cheaper, $850 as of this post). This one has a bit faster clocked processor and a larger battery. The only thing worse spec wise is the GPU which is only by a small margin.

Yeah it was 999 when I saw it too. OP, if you can afford the extra 50 dollars, it's DEFINITELY worth it.

thats a beautiful machine. the only thing i would do is upgrade the hdd from 5200rpm to 7200rpm. thats what i did and i could instantly tell a difference in load and boot times.

Those laptops are expensive. Not to mention they aren't just bad, they're terribad at gaming. My friend bought this one. It runs game, had blu ray, tons of ram, a core 2 duo, and an nvidia 9600 that runs games like l4d, tf2, Crysis and Far Cry 2 quite well.
