Certainly CAD it is loudly told, well the editor as AutoCad, suitable to practical application for simple drawings. I.e. for the small organizations, institute term papers.

For today the most mass editor it the AutoCAD. In spite of the fact that in a naked kind it is absolutely poor program from the last century, its price some thousand dollars. On other popular programs of the price similar.

However also it is not necessary to the majority of designers of such programs, many use AutoCAD as the editor.

However working in 3D is more pleasant. Popularity AutoCAD is proved also to that alternatively to it there are some programs on an engine IntelliCAD, etc.

What for it is necessary?

First, programming in pleasure
Secondly, may be from this will grow up the presents free-cad.

In general it would be desirable to make cross-platform CAD, for linux and windows.

More shortly. Is wishing to participate?

I'd need to see some sort of direction before I thought about committing my time to it...

There's plenty of open source CAD projects out there. Have you looked at them yet? What do you want to do that is different from them?

I think the main goal of the project should be such:

In the first I want that the project was cross-platform
In the second free-of-charge.
And at last it should allowed to draw primitives(line, shaps, etc) with various standards.

If there is a lot of such a projects, prompt where to search?

Please help an existing open source project instead of starting another one.

I have doubts there will ever be an open source CAD project that has any substance. It simply takes too many people to get anything viable.

It takes more time than most people have, it isn't that there aren't enough.

Which is why there are always going to be big time closed-source 3rd party applications to do some tasks because people working "for free" are never going to be able to coordinate well enough.

I already have operating time in the given area

In the project I use a java platform and java2d
In the near future I wish to create a site which will represent the given project
There will be a forum, wiki, a repository and all necessary

Also I will set some source codes which are ready today.

I think it will be our starting point, everyone can download and take a look at source codes.

Is there a reason that you insist on starting this application from scratch rather than contributing to an existing project which shares your goals?
