 Post subject: designing computer hardware

What kind of degree would I need to design new computer chips? (cpu, videocards, sound cards etc)

electrical engineering?

EE is one as is Computer Science.

MIS, Math, physics they all can lead to it also. But EE and CS would be your most likely path. The big thing is getting picked up after gradutation. That's when you'll start to truely learn it.

If you really want to work towards building computer parts, not simply putting them together, look for internship while in school. An electrical engineering degree is your best bet, but talk with the professors and advisers when you visit the college about their recommendations, somehow they have some knowledge about the field the teach.
