I hear it's a lot harder to make deathcamps in, so no fun there

Once I stumbled across Settlers, I pretty much ignored Sims. Too simplistic.

It's alot of fun. Basically it's a nicer looking version of the first one with alot more personal interactions. Plus it has enormous neighborhoods with dynamic lots for either residential or "community" properties (a la Hot Date). It's definitely worth getting, but it does have one drawback that hopefully time will cure. There's almost nothing for it compared to the first one and no word from Maxis about an object creation app or support for a third party one. But I'm sure it's being worked on and we'll see tons of free new furniture, appliances, etc. soon enough. It's clearly a sequel but one with a %200 improvement over the original.

My wife has been playing it nonstop since last week. JCPenny was selling the CD version for $20 online as part of some absurd sale so I figured why not.

don't expect it to run great though. panning around (especially w/a lot of people will slow that crap down. it looks pretty good though and it's really an in depth game. too much time will be spent on that game. i hope it's easy to back up files.

Thanks everyone. I actually have purchased the DVD version. Sad thing is that I havent had the chance to sit down load it and play. Been way too busy with work and the family and no time for myself lately. I have enjoyed SIM City ( original, 2000,& 4) and first SIMS. Looking foward in loading this up soon.

Just make sure you don't have any pressing deadlines before you pick this up...This is the reason I have never played the SIMS...I get too involved with the g-damn games and can't puit them down.
