OMG, exactly how you read it folks…Doom 3 was just a warm-up!! :D A warm-up for the best FPS game ever created. Raven & idSoftware has finally leaked out some info about the long-awaited for, QUAKE IV. It uses the Doom 3 engine, with most of the effort was put into the single-player mode. The developers believe that not much work needs to be done on the multiplayer part of the game other than ‘fine-tuning’ it.

Jim Hughes, lead designer says, "Quake IV is all about being part of an epic sci-fi battle field with fast-paced explosive action. We’re using the Doom 3 tech, so you know that we’ll deliver an amazing experience, with both stunning visuals and heart-pounding, intense gameplay."

It’ll basically pick up where Q2 left off for single-player mode, while the experience in multiplayer mode is similar to that of Q3…so in a way, QIV is a sequel to both Q2 & Q3. :o According to the article I read, there’ll also be new weapons & creatures added to the game. There’s only one concern though, the Doom 3 engine can only handle displaying about 5 highly detailed enemies on the screen at once, which is not suitable for a fast-paced FPS game like Q4. id Software, however, assures that this will only be a true successor to the Quake series & its fans won’t be disappointed. OMG, this is a game that’s more important than Doom 3, Half-Life 2, Unreal Tournament 2006, Halo 2 & Counter Strike 3000 (if there’ll ever be one, lol), so they better get it right. Oh, it's believed that the game will be released sometime in 2005. 8)

Uh... what?

I thought they would switch off between the games, make a doom game, make a new engine, make a quake game, make a new engine, make a doom game, etc, etc.

Quake was fun and all, but nothing pants creaming. I may prefer quake4 to doom3 for my frag fests but I'm not spazing out like a HL2 fanatic for it.

Seeing as how most computer can't handle Doom 3 very well why do they need to make another engine before releasing Quake IV? Like I said in other threads Doom 3, in my opinion, was just a tech demo. Quake IV will be the full blown game that most thought Doom 3 should have been.

Ya See! What have I been saying! Though it may make you sick to think about it this way since we all spent 54.99 plus tax on D3, think of Doom as a technology test for things to come!

I was of course assuming a later release date.

I heard that there'll be a D3 expansion pack or something like that. Honestly, I don't care paying another $50 for a game like Q4...esp when it's using the D3 engine. I'm pretty sure this game will own badly, and I definitely see its community fraging eachothers asses on servers for at least another 4yrs. :D

lol, ya. They must really be pushing the payolla. Seems half the games I play have a "Best played on Nvdia" splash screen on 'em.

Does ATI have any games it's "recommended" on?

Besides Half Life 2 the only other one that I've come across was the demo for Rollercoaster Tycoon 3. It had the ATi logo splash screen when you start the game.

Oh oh oh!!! I caught some unintentional double meaning, anyone see it?? Since Doom3 is a dark game, things will certainly look brighter for ATI when HL2 comes out...get it?

:D

by the time either game comes out, it wont really matter anymore, nvidia and ati cards are still fast nomatter which game favors which card. In other words. A high end ati card will run doom III more then playable and likely quake IV and a high end nvidia will run hl2 more then playable.

Yeah dx11101, true. It won't matter which video card you buy to be able to play either game. Video cards will way powerful by then. ;)

Never played Quake. So, what I'm looking for is that Id Software will release an expansion pack to Doom 3. And that they improve it as what it should be. Making it equal or better than the anticipated Quake 4.
