Hl2 is so over-hyped....look at Doom 3. Everybody gets their nuts all excited about something then when they finally get it, its not as great as they expected, it never is.

I won't believe the hype until they have it on shelves so then I can read real user opinions.

yeah but The original Half-Life was hyped to the moon and it totally delivered on its promises. Sometimes games that are expected to be really good, are really good. Take the Medal of Honor series, or Call of duty, or Splinter Cell, etc.

Just because something is hyped doesn't mean it can't be good. And often time, we get excited for a game because we have every reason to think it's going to be good. I mean, look at Deus Ex 2. Classic example...the first was incredible, and the second was being done by the same team with all-new graphics, even more flexibility, etc. But it sucked. Did I not like it because it was hyped and my expectations were too high? No...I had high hopes, but ultimately the game was not fun for a number of reasons.

Sure, some people argued "it doesn't suck, you just don't get it!" and we hear the same thing from the Doom 3 fanobys too. That we don't get it. But the bottom line is there are A LOT of people out there who were genuinely excited by that game, thought it would be excellent, rushed out and bought it, and then just felt totally disspoinated.

Really everything is like that. Some people loved this game, others hated it. Some people think this or that movie rocked, other people hated them. Some people like this car, other people think it sucks, etc.

I always try to look at something I am going to critque from all sides, see what it's meaning is, or why it was created and what it's designed to do. Then, if it meets those qaulifications, it generally passes. Unless, it sucks...
:?
