OK so I finally got some time to stop by bestbuy and get doom 3 and not able to play it. I'm on a business trip at the moment and have to resort to my notebook just meeting requirements. Game is installed and starts up fine but after about 5-8 min it crashs to desktop. Current Driver specs are: 6.14.10.6422 / 1/27/2004. Unsucessful in finding a updated driver, If anyone knows where to get it or any other reasons this could be happening that would be great.

Comp. Specs:
Athlon 64 3200+ w/ 512mb ram

I use omega drivers on my Dell 8600 with 9600 pro turbo graphics since dell never updates there drivers and ati doesnt support mobile cards themselves.

Omega takes the current cat drivers and amung other things unlocks them to work on all ati cards including mobility...

Theyll probably have the new 4.8 drivers up soon but im using the 4.7s and they work just fine.

Sounds like it might also be heat related to me. That's an awful lot of game for that GPU. You might, if nothing else works you could try downloading a program (if there is one compatible with a mobility radeon 9600) like powerstrip or ATItool and try underclocking your GPU. Of course, that's going to adversly affect game performance. But definantly try the omega drivers first.

Downloaded Omega driver and took heat related issue in thought and put some pennies under back on pads to get some better air flow and cooling. New driver is great took abit to get to work after checking readme and found out I needed to uninstall the ati control panel. Omega panel has Radlinker were I could underclock if needed for cooling. Anyways on to issue it seemed to run fine went through first 2 maps no problem, had to pull myself away to post.

Question I have now is there a prog where I can montior temp of vid card and Mobo/CPU?

Mobo: Arima W720-K8

Thanx for getting me up and running

I dont know of any heat monitoring programs for that motherboard but i woudnt worry about it too much if: A)your not overclocking the vid or cpu B) your not having anymore frequent crashs since the driver update.

As i stated earlier i have a 9600 pro turbo in my laptop also. Dells default clock for the card is 337MHz GPU and 243MHz memory. Using ATITOOL (included in omegas) the card can run around 380 gpu and 300 memory... but this is a laptop and i dont really trust its cooling to maintain those settings ESPECIALLY under Doom3. But i have played at 370 gpu 280 memory for hours w/o issue. All in all i still normally run it at default speeds because its runs well enough and i dont want to dammage my system.
Anyway all this to say if your not overclocking or blocking up the ventilation holes i woudnt worry about heat too much.

just found this laptop benchmarking link:

http://www.legitreviews.com/reviews/doo ... index.html

he has a link to a tool that mods the cat 4.8s directly (w/o using omega) and it looks like the 4.8s are the way togo for doom3 right now. Im off to give them a try.

P.S. if you wanted the overclocking abilities of the omega drivers just get ATITOOL seperatly and use it with the cat drivers.
