Linkage:
http://www2.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjQ0

Looks like for my setup, i'll be able to play the game at medium at 800x600

Average framerate 60fps. Very do able!

Mine falls the line in their guide of a +2500 w/ 9500 Pro.

Also Check out the Ultimate D3 machine. BADASS! Some of you will be able to do this. Lucky bastages.

[H]'s guide is neat and all, but my system does worse then they led me to believe, guess I need to make some tweaks, but I haven't encountered any large number of monsters yet, only one at a time so far, so I guess it's gonna get even worse :/ Multiplayer maps are less detailed, which is smart. And I'm glad rocket jumping is in the game, but plasma climbing is gone...

You may want to check what else is running in the background on your PC. I doubt the [H] setups had many if any 'extra' utilities running

I can run at 1024x768, no FSAA, medium quality detail mode(full resolution, but compressed specular and bump maps, multiple sounds per audio stream channel etc), all advanced options enabled(stencil shadows, bump maps, specular maps, high quality special effects, [such as a cool heat haze shimmer effect] , etc), at a decent frame-rate(20-30FPS normally, 10-25FPS in battles, and 40-60FPS in small areas).

I have an Intel Pentium 4 Willamate 2.2 GHz, an ATi Radeon 9500 Pro 128MB DDR VRAM @ stock speeds, and 512MB of PC800 ECC RDRAM @ 800MHz(four sticks of 128MB) w/Windows XP Pro.

1600x1200, High Quality at ~50FPS.

the other 512MB of DDR I have coming will bump that up to 60 in a weke or so.

Biatches. :-)

Doom 3 runs slower on my machine than I thought it would too. At 800x600, medium detail timedemo gets me around 40fps. Actual gameplay at those settings seems A LOT slower, especially when there are gobs of monsters everywhere.

Specs:
XP3200
1GB Corsair XMS3200
FX 5900XT

I know my system isn't exactly fast but man, this game is demanding. I thought it would run better, even on my older gen. vid card...

Runs fine on my system at 800x600 High Detail. (AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 1gb Corsair XMS Platinum, XFX Geforce FX5700 256mb, XP Pro) I'm just happy I can play it! Amazingly, I can get it to run on my old Dell. (PIII 1ghz, 512mb Kingston Value Series, 128mb Radeon 9600SE)

if you click on the cpu and gpu reviews here they shed light on some of your guys performance problems. doom 3 really doesnt like athlon xp's at all so if you have an xp, that is why your scores may be lower.

My system:

P4 @ 3.06, Radeon 9700 pro, SB audigy 2, 1024 Mb 1066 Rdram, 200 Gb WD 7200 rpm HD. This is a stock Dell Dimension 8250
I run Doom3 at 1024 * 768 at high settings and average about 50 fps (roughly). When I OC my gfx card, I can get it up to about 60, but it gets hot so fast that it'll usually crash after an hour of playing or so. Time for a new GPU heatsink! I also can play the game in ultra high setting at whatever the default res. is for that but I get framerates around 20-25, dropping lower when the action gets hairy.
