I read recently of some apparent unhappiness with the boss fights in this game.
What was that about ?
I played the game through and didn't find anything particularly wrong with them,

They're out of place because in a game that emphasizes multiple ways to deal with situations, there's only one way to beat a boss: kill them. This makes non-combatant runs harder. At least in the first games, boss fights can be avoided through cunning or some such. And the sequel had no real boss fights

Namir can be beaten in 6 seconds.

12 on hard.

And if you are packing explosives and EMP's in general, the bosses are toast.

I found exploits in all of them, and I was playing on Deus Ex mode. So it wasn't bad.

I didn't see any way besides killing them, and I wondered about claims I had heard
that you could get through the game without killing anyone (maybe I recall this incorrectly, though).

Now I'm playing Mass Effect (#1) and I defnitely don't see any way to avoid killing in this game.
But it is, after all, at least partly FPS.

The Pacifist Achievement says that boss fights are excluded, confirming that there's no other option.

I beat the final boss in SEVEN FREAKING SECONDS.

No boss should be that easy.

How did you do that ?

I used the most awesome but second most impractical weapon in the game, the Laser Rifle.

It allows you to shoot through walls, and therefore the boss's barrier.

I'll have to try that. I stuck mostly with conventional weapons, just out of
force of habit. Next time through maybe I'll do the opposite

Not without good reason, there really isn't a reason to pack anything but a modded out pistol and a heavier weapon(I chose the explosive rounds revolver).

But there's something really satisfying about using a big-ass shotgun

I also beat Namir in the same amount of time.

Grenade Launcher + EMP grenade while he does his long ass starting animation = Dead.
