My only Windows machine is for gaming only, but it is online usually.
It has only run MSE. I have heard stories about how it's hard to un-install Norton.
Is that still a problem ?

Go to Norton's website and get the uninstall app for your version. The uninstall in windows and the one in the Norton anti virus doesn't uninstall everything, the special uninstaller on their website does the job.

If you’ve been looking for antivirus protection for your gaming rig or a slower machine, ESET NOD32 should be your top choice." CPU Magazine :)

I've heard of these uninstall tools, and I wonder why one should have to do that.
I'm guessing that making the AV hard to uninstall makes it more resistant to malware (?).
But I always have the sneaking (probably just paranoid) suspicion that
not everything really gets uninstalled

List of Security Suites [more than just anti-virus] http://internet-security-suite-review.toptenreviews.com/

Note that ESET NOD32 antivirus works well with Windows 7, but not their Smart Security 5. For an anti-virus ESET NOD32 has to be one of the easiest to use, probably the most easy.

By the way, I use NOD 32 for my XP, 32-bit and Vista, 64-bit machine. And, I use Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2012 for Windows 7, 64-bit. I have been using NOD 32 for the past few years, however, I switched to Bitdefender for Windows 7.

Bitdefender is very easy to use and has a gaming mode that does not cause problems while I am gaming.

I have been using free Avira Anti-virus with Malwarebytes as a companion and free Zonealarm for my firewall and have had no problems.

All are free, work well for me and I play a lot of games online.

+1 here. Zone Alarm + Avast Free Antivirus = great solution!
