It mostly meant crappy bandwith, I guess.

Well, here's an amazing surprise, I have found SP gaming nirvana in the most odd place.
Deus Ex Invisible War. They had it up at Best Buy for $19, so I decided to pick it up and give it another chance.
When the first demo came out for this came, I thought it was absolutly horrible, and vowed not to buy it.
But, I enjoyed the 1st one so much I had to give it a go, and hoped the patch they had out
for it would remedy the problems that plauged the demo.
With the 1.2 patch, DX:IW looks, plays and controls like a dream now!
If you didn't like it before, try it again with the 1.2 patch, they really have brought this game back to the PC!

Is it safe to assume just PC games?

You are correct my good friend, besides, everyone knows PC's are the only way to play the best games.
That, and I don't own any consoles, nor will I ever.

This is, MaximumPC!

*cough* I am a very avid console gamer.... My PC is severly lagging in oomph.

Sorry to hear about that, right now there is a plethora of outstanding games to play, with more right around the corner. You could do one of my tricks and just plunk down a little bit from time to time and build a new one, or afford a decent upgrade on your current system.

Good Single Player Games huh?

FPS:
UT2004, good even in single player mode
Unreal 2 is good, but the ending just bites.
Battlefield 1942 (I loved this one, and I don't normally like this style)

RPG:
The Elder Scrolls III, Morrowind, hands down.
Arcanum (had issues with my radeon 9600 though)
Diablo 2 (hours of killing stuff)

SIM:
Black and White (still one of the coolest games ever created)
Stronghold is fun, worth the $10 I paid for it.
Majesty: Gold Edition, same thing, great for $10 dollars
Resteraunt Tycoon, only played the demo but it was interesting

RTS:
Warcraft 3, better with the expansion.
Again, Stronghold and Majesty

I have way too much time on my hands...
:)
Rise of Nations too.

Would you believe, I just picked up "Alice" at Best Buy for $9.99?

Its been a few years since I played that game, last time was on my 400Mhz AMD K6-2 with a Voodoo 3 card.

I really really look forward to playing it again, on a AMD 3200+ and a Radeon 9800 Pro!

Been having a good time with Deus Ex 2 also, the 1.2 patch really fixed that game up, and I'm a big fax of the Deus Ex series.

Also picked up Chaser for $9.99. The game actually looks pretty good, not sure about story yet, but its clean and plays tight.

I'm a FPS only gamers, except the occasion Mechwarrior or Rally car game.

Let me explain.
We have a plethora of outstanding multiplayer games these days, with great mods to boot, such as Ghost Recon, UT, UT2004, Raven Shield, America's Army, Quake 3. Mods such as Air Buccanears, Jailbreak, Urban Terrer and more to compliment these games.

But, what seems to be falling short lately is a "Great" single player game. The last great single player game I went through was Mafia. The game was dripping with atmosphere of the 30's. Pandoara Tomorrow was cool, but for some reason it was not as adventerous as the first Splinter Cell game.

Is there anything out these days that might be able to hold interest in single player action? I've tried the new Hitman games, its not quite there. FarCry looks great, but something wasn't right with it for me. I suppose there are some that are out now that I haven't tried yet, a hidden treasure in Best Buy's aisle, but I haven't found it, yet.

What single player action/stealth games have you played lately that gave you the "Wow!" effect?

WOW

Medal of Honor Assault. First time I played and one of the missions opened up on Omaha beach, and my stomach just curled right up and started hurting, real bad. All that hammering and shrapnel flying and I just had to get to the shingle...

It isn't all assault, there is some sneaking around in some of the levels. n Working on Spearhead (expansion pak) now. Damn, with an anti-tank gun, you'd think it would be easy, wouldn't you? :D

I'm with you on that, the first MoH game I played was absolutly great.
I freaked on the Omaha mission, though I was never going to get past it.

I'm with you guys on Alice. Man I loved that game.

Another personal favorite of mine is Citizen Kabuto. Very funny, and great voice acting.

I haven't had a top of the line (or even within sight of the line :P ) system for years. Running a 400Mhz Celeron, 4 Gb Hd, with Rage 128 graphics (yes, remember those?). The good thing is it forced me to really search out quality games to occupy precious memory space. So, while lacking in graphics, here are my recomendations for great games:

Lords of the Realm 2
Master of Orion 2
Stronghold
Warcraft 2
(Gyargh, what's it name, something something Twinsen's Adventure?)
Lode Runner (not the crappy "3D" version, the previous edition)
Civ 2
Alpha Centauri
simcity 2000

Well, there it is. Old and loaded with strategy/sim games. Bad graphics, poor sound but some of the most enjoyable games ever made.
