Let me explain.
We have a plethora of outstanding multiplayer games these days, with great mods to boot, such as Ghost Recon, UT, UT2004, Raven Shield, America's Army, Quake 3. Mods such as Air Buccanears, Jailbreak, Urban Terrer and more to compliment these games.

But, what seems to be falling short lately is a "Great" single player game. The last great single player game I went through was Mafia. The game was dripping with atmosphere of the 30's. Pandoara Tomorrow was cool, but for some reason it was not as adventerous as the first Splinter Cell game.

Is there anything out these days that might be able to hold interest in single player action? I've tried the new Hitman games, its not quite there. FarCry looks great, but something wasn't right with it for me. I suppose there are some that are out now that I haven't tried yet, a hidden treasure in Best Buy's aisle, but I haven't found it, yet.

What single player action/stealth games have you played lately that gave you the "Wow!" effect?

Is it safe to assume just PC games?

Got CoD, looking forward to the expansion pack coming out.

Not quite sure what to make of FarCry yet though. I tried the demo, like I said, it looks great, but the demo sure didn't seem like a "Roam anywhere" kind of game to me.

I might pick up Thief 3 though, tried the demo and was very impressed with it.

You are correct my good friend, besides, everyone knows PC's are the only way to play the best games.
That, and I don't own any consoles, nor will I ever.

This is, MaximumPC!

The full version of Far Cry is much better than the Demos, IMO. It's not a "roam anywhere" FPS (we'll have to wait for Stalker for that), but it is surprisingly open ended in how it allows you to deal with situations and enemies. Physics are good, graphics are good and the feel is pretty spot on.

For me it lacks enough cohesion to make it a truely great game (I haven't played it much recently). The Story is poor and the voice acting is achingly bad, but other than that it's a pretty slick game.

CoD is good, just too linear and too short.

The last game I actually beat was KotOR, which I wholeheartedly recommend.

I'm with you on the CoD, it was way short, but was a blast to play.
I've been aching for the day STALKER comes out, that looks wicked fun. I've
also been wondering about KotoR, still haven't checked out Jedi Academy
either, heard it was better than Jedi Outcast though.

difficulty reseting it'self. AI acting dumb. 16bit color depth, most of the stuff can be corrected by editing the ini and patch.

And, its a multiplayer game. I was looking more for single player games.
Free is good, but I don't think I'll stop anytime soon playing Jailbreak in UT2004 for Tribes 1.

You might look for Halflife (first person shooter) in the bargain bin, the graphics are old but the story and game play is great! Another is Battlezone 1 & 2, both are good first person shooter/strat games...I can never figure out why these games never caught on...guess you gotta think a little and that might hurt..hmmm. I had fun with Unreal 2...sad ending though. FarCry was a good game...funkie ending.

If you are looking for a story that goes on thru several iterations of the game, The Baulders Gate series 1 & 2 is great! (RPG) Neverwinter series is another in this genre.

Nasty

I had a blast with Half-Life, all 3 of them!
Op-Rorce was the best in my opinion, Bkue Shift was fun also.
And best part about that game are the mods! They Hunger, USS Darkstar and POKE646 were the best. Those mods are equal to a full game and a blast to play, just like Operation Na Pali and Spatial Fear for UT

I just bought Fallout2 for ten bucks the other day. Ahhhhhhhh....I love the 90s. Single player meant something back then.
