I ran Ubuntu 8.04 and it ran so so. Windows 7 beta still has a few months but I wanna get it rid of it.

The laptop is used for browsing when Im home and dont wanna get up to use my desktop and to charge my iPhone while I sleep. Whats the best distro ( that installs to the HDD and doesn't only run off a live cd )?

Preferably something small and quick with little linux know how. All Ive ever done with linux is install, update, and do a few command lines to get flash to work that I found on google.

Is there something specific that brought you to the conclusion that 8.04 was just "so-so"?

There's nothing in the specs that wouldn't lead me to believe that changing distros would yield the same experience you had.

After maybe 30 minutes of use it would get very sluggish which I figured had to be from the lappy getting too hot. Thats why I figured if I use a distro thats much smaller and lighter it wouldnt tax it so much and get so hot. If my thinking is wrong or I'm coming way outta left field let me know. Lol I still have alot to learn

by that right, Windows should replicate the same effect in less time.

I have a burnt 9.10 iso sitting somewhere in my room. I was looking at http://susestudio.com/ a bit and whipped up something super tiny in a few minutes. Only thing that I couldnt get to work was the network manager ... but I was very very tired and gave it only 10 minutes lol. Ima try live cd's of both ubuntu 9.10 and the one I made to see which I like better.
