A friend just asked me what should they do if when they start up their macboo, and all they see is a mac face. No cursor, just the face. They want to know how to rehabilitate the laptop, so they don't have to get a new computer. I thought that they could get an upgrade to Snow Leopard, and just do a clean install, but I dont know if that is possible, as I don't have a mac.

I agree with Crash on this one, especially with the limited amount of information you gave.

The face is a firmware function usually seen when the system cannot find any boot devices.

Check out this URL for some boot keys, use them to eliminate possible causes. http://www.jacsoft.co.nz/Tech_Notes/Mac_Keys.shtml
