Stick with Prism2 chipset based cards, you'll find all kinds of fun programs written for them.

There's a way to get a CRAPLOAD of cards to work (even ones without linux drivers) by using ndiswrapper:

It kind of emulates Windows drivers. Today, the first final build was released, 1.0 . Give it a go!

I've had a a Netgear G311 that I've been waiting for support for. Hopefully it will be soon so I don't feel like I've wasted money.
