Maximum PC

I'm making my first Ubuntu 9.04 server, its got 9 HDDs in it right now. All of the drives are in NTFS, and every time i reboot, i have to manually go to places > removable media and click on them to mount them to //media. i know little about how Linux works (I'm a windows boy) so i need a way to mount all of these drives permanently.

go to Adminitsration> Disks, write down the partition names (they should look like /dev/hdb* or /dev/sdb*), write them down. make a folder for each drive(/media is good spot). now open up the file etc\fstab and add a line like this at the bottom for each drive.

Where dev/foo is the name of the partition, mount/point is the mount point, and ntfs is the filesystem, so you dont need to change that.

and these are external HDs that you have hooked up at once?

I suppose you could add something to fstab as freak suggested, but I'm not sure that's entirely the right approach here.

I guess I'm just confused how removable media is coming into play here or just puzzled as to what you're doing and what you're wanting to happen, outside of wanting them to automatically mount.

You could go the route Freak suggested or you could look at udev rules. I quickly looked this over and it should at least get you started:

Thats why im confused, these are INTERNAL IDE HDDs. but linux is seeing them as removable disks.

EDIT: for do i open etc\fstab?

And i dont have "Disks" under Administration, do i have to install Gparted? ill do it anyway...

go into a terminal and type sudo gedit /etc/fstab

You should be able to list all your partitions via

sudo fdisk -l

in a terminal also.

Alternatively running gnomesu through run application should open a terminal with the proper permissions also (admittedly, I've never tried that in Ubuntu though).

Doing on a google with mount ntfs fstab should give you plenty of results on what needs to go in there.

I guess if they're not mounted, I could see why they'd show up in removable disks.

You probably want to use ntfs-3g as the filesystem instead of ntfs. ntfs-3g is the ntfs driver that allows for read-write interactions.
