Good luck .. those cards are NOT recommended for linux installs ... Creative Labs have their collective heads up their asses.

When I read the news, I literally said out loud, "It's 'bout f***in' time!"

I wish it would've come sooner. I returned my X-Fi Xtreme Music (the original) because it didn't work with Ubuntu 5.10, and had no hope to.

Oh now, they didn't have any official drivers. I had recalled reading about some lil hack with ALSA or OSS to get it semi working, but I never got anything. I was new to Linux at that time and more expected it work. When it didn't, I simply returned it. There was no real driver, hot-fix, beta... nothing back in 2005.

Did the driver just not work good for you? I've been considering picking up an older X-Fi Xtreme Music again, so I'm eager to know.

I think calling me a n00b at linux would be pushing it and I managed to get the new driver working with no trouble what so ever. Sounds fantastic too.

now if only i could do the same with the most current ATI drivers.
