Unfortunately I can't get my Gentoo install to work properly when I try linking the stage three tarball. I need to get an alternate OS running from which I can hopefully install Gentoo correctly.

EDIT: A little more info about my install issue

As far as I can tell, I'm experiencing a error caused by bad network configuring. Because I already partitioned my Windows install, I can't just boot back up and burn a ISO for another distro (Ubuntu or Knoppix comes to mind) so I'm a little stranded until I can get a working OS no matter how simple.

I guess essentially what I'm looking for is a distro that's install CD would be less then 128MBs. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I've only got 3 weeks left to hit 70 before WotLK and I'm three levels and one working operating system away.

I was looking at it but as I told the guys in Gentoo.irc the support for it looks, ironically, small. To be honest I'm not sure what version to even DL and put on the drive XD. I have to admit I'm a bit over my head with all this but I want it to work so badly, not to mention I'm really out of options with all my repair and diagnostic tools down in Illinois with my dad.

Or how about just installing ubuntu onto a thumb drive?
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2008/05/08 ... e-live-cd/

for a DSL thumb drive:

DSL HD install:

And here is the ISO:

Go out and buy a 2 GB for about $15. It'll be worth it.

The burner on this lappy decided to start working randomly so I was able to burn th Slax ISO to a CD-RW. I'm doing the install right now so hopefully this will work. *fingers crossed*

*UPDATE*
Slax is installed and I'm already in love. I'm following the directions to installing Gentoo from another Linux OS from here:

Do to complications of installing Gentoo through another OS (mainly do to inexperience >_<) I'm just going to DL and burn the live CD. Since the original problem I posted this thread for is now moot, I'm just going to change the topic to "XoRns Struggle to Install Gentoo Properly". Maybe it will be a epic poem or a simple haiku, but it's getting installed one way or another.

Haikus are easy
But sometimes they make no sense
Refrigerator

I remember installing gentoo 2 years ago on my HP laptop. Everything was going great. I fubar'd something and it didn't work.... reinstall. Then, like 60-70% through the install, the power cord came out and I didn't notice. It had a battery life of like 30 minutes doing anything but typing. Battery died, fubar'd the install. Start over...

Took me a good solid weekend to get it working. It was pretty slick when it did work though.

Well, not only do I not have Gentoo installed on my PC, I also obliterated Windows on my fiancees laptop. Fortunatly, I had a single working iso burn of DSL so I can still wonder aimlessly with the slighest glimmer of hope in the fact that I still have access to the internet. Rignt now I'm trying to figure out how to install DSL to either my new 2 Gig (ya, I went and bought one, lol) or onto my harddive so I can free up my CD burner and install a more robust OS. The problem I'm encountering rightnow is gaining access to either my HD or USB dives with the terminal.

Code:
hdto=/dev/hda

doesn't seem to want to work. DMESG shows that my HD is detected (HDA1), but I can't find my USB key (SDA?).

Currently I'm looking for the directions to install DLS manualy to my HD. If I can access my CD drive I'll be able to burn ISO's again which should get me back to where I last left off (perhaps even better off since I won't be using a crappy laptop drive) trying to install Gentoo.

By obliterate you mean?

There is no way for you to get a cd image of Ubuntu or something that has a good liveCD to fix it?
