Well, waiting a bit won't kill you and you'll have a chance to see how HTC and Android work together.

I'm hoping that Android takes off ... google does a great job with so many of their products and I'm sure that linux support will be much better than .. well .. nothing.

True. We will see though. If the early termination isn't terrible... (Although, I might get them to offer me a deal, I have bee a customer for the past ~5 years).

I might keep the VZW phone and treat it as a "house phone".

That and the ubiquitous iPhone commercials ...

Though, I was waiting for decent GPS and a reasonable data pricing plan to arrive and both have with the recent release of the 3G up here in Canucklestan.

Are these verified to work with the newer firmwares? I had gtkPod working with my Gen1 nano but the Gen3 uses a different firmware/database and gtkpod did not work any longer.

I would love to use Amarok and dump iTunes. I'll try this tonight and see what happens.

LOL

This was a consideration for me back in April some time. I was still ~ 1 year to the end of my contract then.

Let us know. I also have a nano that it would be handy to know about. Although, I primarily use windows, so it is more or less a non-issue for me ATM.

I've always used Amarok for my iPod.. it's one of the newer models, so, unfortunately, iPodLinux doesn't work on it :(

Amarok is great. It works perfectly with my iPod, and it's the best music player I've ever used. I love scripts.

As much as I hate to admit it, an iPod is looking pretty nice now. They're nice players and all, but Creative and Cowon make more feature-rich products any day of the week. I was hoping to use my Palm Centro as a music player along with many other phone/PDA duties, but the battery life just isn't up to par to run music for several hours and still be able to talk, manage schedule, check email and RSS feeds, etc...

I was thinking something more like the 80Gb classic. If I were to go smaller, I'd get something from SanDisk or Creative. Just IMO.
