I am having some trouble with my wireless driver, I have attempted to install the ndis wrapper but it didn't work does any one have any suggestions? I am using centosplus with the KDE interface.

I wasn't able to find much about an Intel 4964, but I know that the 3945 pro wireless was common, and works well with (at least ubuntu) Linux out of the box.

I have tried the driver and it didn't work so I heard about the NDIS wrapper and decided to try that. well I am not sure how to install it. It appears that the config is missing when I ran the ls command. I am confused.

One of the few things I can say without a doubt about *nix is; pay very close attention to the case, space and format of the commands you enter.

I copied and pasted from the install file to the konsole.

Are you getting anything back from the console like an error or any messages when you try to install?

You need a recent kernel, at least 2.6.16, with header files for the
kernel. Make sure there is a link to the kernel source from the modules
directory. The command

ls /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build

should have at least 'include' directory and '.config' file.

There is no config when I run this command but there is an include.

Download the latest version of the ndiswrapper sources from here and
extract it with the command

tar zxvf ndiswrapper-version.tar.gz



tar: ndiswrapper-version.tar.gz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

You need to specify the version of your ndiswrapper.

The italicized portion of this command needs to be altered to fit the name of the file that you downloaded:

tar zxvf ndiswrapper-version.tar.gz

tar zxvf ndiswrapper-1.53.tar.gz comes back with the same error message.

You need to find that file. The error says the file doesn't exist ... why?

I have a feeling that it's the iwl4965 driver that's needed. (I have that card, and it works great with iwlwifi)

Are you running these commands as root or su?

I'm running a 4965 and had no problems..

FYI, "sudo -i" works the same as "sudo su"

From there, what is the output of lspci and iwconfig?

It says that it can't find the command. I believe this system is very stable, and I enjoy it much more than windows. It just seems like I am having trouble installing things. I have tried a couple of items from kdelook.org and I am having the same issue. I am certain that it has everything to do with me not knowing the commands. Any suggestions are appreciated. thanks!
