Bingo. A sample. Something that shows your mastery at telling someone or something how to do something. :D

You'd have probably a week to a week and a half to write the article. Not starting from today -- from the date the article's assigned.

Too bad my writing skillz are on par with a quadraplegic playing tennis. Kinda cool to have the offer though.

Hang in there. I am sure they will have other chances to write articles about Linux.

The Linux Journal takes reader articles too. They draw pretty heavily on the vast knowledge in the user base/practicing community (to their benefit I think).

I really hope whomever does get to write this article, doesn't tell those who haven't tried installing Linux to use Wubi. Wubi is a great idea, but a horrible execution. I lost track of how many people I've helped or have seen helped in various groups with problems because of Wubi. Many times it doesn't work out right, or you'll get weird errors. Not to mention it's never as fast a native install, And not just slower in some synthetic benchmark, but noticeably slower in general use.

I would love to write the article, but I've had my debacles with Wine time and time again. Several games/apps never did work right.

Also, Will has already written a good article on installing Linux. If you want to cover both topics (Linux install + wine), then the article will have to be long as hell, or just skim over topics that Linux newcomers might have no clue about.

All of MPC's articles have focussed on Ubuntu, so I imagine that the author of the article will be instructed to make it Ubuntu specific if necessary. If s/he isn't instructed, you might hope that they are clever enough to figure that out. ;)

Man I have to agree. I have been trying and trying to get that to work on a lappy. I tried from the cd and tried from the direct download and neither would boot.
Error 15 and other times it just locks up.

Sorry this is OT but I just booted from the XP CD, fixmbr/fixboot and now Ubuntu works just fine in dual boot mode.
Weird....

I've found Super GRUB disk fixes my GRUB issues when I'm lazy. Otherwise, manually editing your /boot/GRUB/menu.lst is much more satisfying.

Are you trying to use Wubi on the laptop? PM me to keep the thread on topic :)

Well, those games are pretty easy to install since they're ported to Linux .. I'm not sure that a Wine How-To is the right place for that kind of info. OTOH, a sidebar listing linux native game might be a nice addition.

No idea what happened to my eyes, I didn't saw this sticky, anyway I am not a Linux expert either so no biggy.

I just want to say, this is a great idea and I can't wait to read the how-tos.

I think it's worth a mention as it's far to often I see someone spinning their wheels with Wine, when they can be installing a native much easier, although I'm not certain if there's anything more recent then what's on icculus.org.

Sadly, as the way things are now, there isn't anything that'll advocate any progress in this area.
