This is a general question I'd like to throw out to all iPod-linux users ... what do you think of gtkPod? Any other software that can be used to if with an iPod?

What are gtkPod's most glaring errors / omissions / bugs? What would you like to see that type of software do?

For me, it would be ideal if it would work off of the same database that rhythmbox uses. Ideally, I could choose which songs to copy to the iPod by selecting rhythmbox playlists.

Easily done. :)

Any other suggestions? I have itchy coding fingers, and ... to be quite honest ... I HATE gtkPod.

Hatehatehatehatehate.

I spent 20 minutes with iTunes, and have been grieving the loss ever since. gtkPod should huddle in shame simply because it shares a sentence with iTunes.

To sum up, gtkPod sucks.

Interesting.

I haven't used my iPod on Linux yet, just been using ephPod which I don't think is cross platform but I really like.

I think ephpod worked with Wine. I also saw a story on /. about iTunes working with Wine, but I think that hasn't hit yet

iTunes makes my 200GB music collection manageable. It's the only jukebox software I've seen that doesn't choke when faced with large collections. The only thing it lacks is the ability to easily transcode from common lossless formats to more compact formats for portable players.

Speaking of, that's another feature I'd love to see in gtkpod--easy transcoding from FLAC to AAC.
