I usually use ncftp for FTP, but it's not graphical :)

apt-cache search wrote:

kbear - Graphical ftp client for KDE
axyftp-gtk - A graphical ftp program with GTK interface
axyftp-lesstif - A graphical ftp program with Lesstif interface

For what it's worth...never really used that a whole lot.

For what it's worth, you could just use mozilla with the download manager. If you need a user and password you should be able to connect to a site via a ftp://user:pass@someftp.com

Ability to pause a download is the only need i have for an FTP Client.

I use Pure-FTP, it has a graphical admin interface, granted that the actual program is in command line form. The Documentation on their site is fairly good, you can check it out for yourself. The nice thing is that you can either have it run as a standalone program or use something like inetd or xinetd in conjunction with the program.

It sounds like PureFTP is a server.

FYI, I like a graphical interface because I frequently do large batch transfers of images and stuff like that back and forth between my home and office. I like to be able to reorder them, have the ability to save a queue and resume it when I fire up the app again, and stuff like that.

When I did a apt-cache search for ftp, I didn't come up with anywhere near that many results colby... I'll have to check and see which repositories I'm searching.

Oh shoot, I thought you meant a server :)

I'm sure that there's something there, I used to use KBear (?) as my FTP Client back when I used to use KDE. I did find one called DeadFTP (http://deadftp.sourceforge.net/) it's in beta stages though, so I'm not sure if the apps is worth trying, but that's up to you.

And I cant belive Will Smith considers his rag of a magazine even half as good as Boot was before imagine turn it into Maximum Piece of Crap

Sorry I may use Slackware but i still use products as Crossover Office for the programs that i need to run Like Word as OO will never be a good as Office. I run Dreamweaver MX Photoshop 7 also form Crossover ... So what if I use Flash FXP under wine aka Crossover it makes no difference to me. So are you going to gawk at me when Softpear comes out and I run OSX applications on my slackware box with out having to have OSX and pearpc.... As softpear is going to be wine type product. I do things with the lease amount of Bullshit. Running FlashFXP takes care of large files that I need to FXP from one server to another with out me having to download then reupload to the new server.

Damn Jawa... sounds like you have a little rage built up!

Jawa78 wrote:

Yeah, OO will never spread a virus as effectively as Word, but most of us just need to type a damn document and don't need 1001 features or want a bunch of stupid vbscript someone decided to experiment with screwing things up. When I was at USD law school - none of the lab machines ran Word. Why? Because the stupid program can't set the number of lines per page AND set a specific margin. You tell it 1" margins and the number of lines per page goes off - set the lines per page and, it doesn't tell you this, but the margins would be off. A bunch of dumbasses didn't listen to the instructor and got F's on their first writing assignments because of that program. This was pre-linux for me (1997) and I was simply amazed that Word couldn't do both.

I originally made the slackware comment because I thought it was funny that you would use wine for an ftp client when there are probably 10 or more available in Slack already. I understand the desire to use the same app in different os's - this is part of the reason I like Java so much (that and I can install/update with JWS or use an applet on 3rd party machines). To each his own I guess....

As for CrossOver Office, maybe it's a good idea, but very few apps have been tested. Caveat emptor.

Well i said i use GFTP which is what i use most of the time.

FOR FXP transfers I found flash fxp to be the best. So I use that. It not like I use it every day.
