I'm having a tech friend of mine rebuild my backup Linux PC.We're reusing my Gigabyte K8NF9 939 motherboard..my old AMD Athlon64 X2 3800 and 2GB of DDR400.(Plus a 80GB Western Digital 8MB cache 7200RPM hard drive). This is all powered by a PC Power and Cooling Turbo-Cool 510SLI.I'm planning to use my old EVGA PCI-E 7800GT. This will be using OpenSuse 10.3 64-bit. Will I have any trouble installing OpenSuse 10.3 with my 7800GT?
(Not planning to do the rebuild for at least another 2 weeks..so I've got time on my side.)

Thanks in advance..

well you won't have any trouble as your tech friend is installing it.

Is there a specific concern you have?

You're question isn't so much Suse, it's will X detect it.

I can't see why it wouldn't at least use the open source nvidia drivers on install.

You're looking at installing the nvidia binary to get it what you want it to do in any case, and last I saw, the card was supported.

Thanks for all the help. I'll update you again, when my newly rebuilt Linux PC is back up and running.

Do you want compiz instantly useable or do you just want higher res than 800x600 ?

I found that the latter works automatically and Compiz needed a driver.

Yeah it should work right when it installed.

This List should be what you need. I see your card on there so it should work

But thats Gentoo. My card worked, all it took was a little detecting thing.

New OpenSuse 10.3 backup PC is up and running. Holy smokes,is this rig (X2 3800 with 2 GB of DDR 400, as well as a EVGA 7800GT) fast!! (Granted,I'm upgrading from a AMD Socket 754 Semperon 2600,with 1GB of DDR400,backed by a EVGA Geforce 4 MX4000 AGP.)

The difference between the Semperon 2600 single-core,and the Athlon 64 X2 3800 dual-core is simply stunning.
