im pickin up a pc from my friend for 15$ to use to learn linux, right how im helping a friend out on a server company and a few of his boxes are running Fedora Core 2. i got to lookin around, i was gonna download the iso's but my nero says something in my registry is gay, so when i get the comp i was gonna install a diff burning app. and burn FC. i read earlier that you have to compile the source code, but u can just d/l the binaries so i cont have to compile myself, which im lookin not to do since im new to it and all. will the iso have the binaries, or should i look for an iso that says it contains binaries or what? http://www.linuxiso.org/distro.php?distro=64 i was lookin at the FC2 for the i386 on here but would those contain the binaries or do i need to look elsewhere? thanks for the help.

There are only a couple of distributions that are "compile from source", and lucky for you Fedora isn't one of them :)

You need four CDs (or one DVD) but none of the Source CDs. You want the ones that say "CD1", "CD2", etc, but not the ones that say "SRPMs".

They also have torrents you can use instead of just downloading ISOs, if you're familiar with BitTorrent. Here's Fedora's download instructions:

http://fedora.redhat.com/download/#download

Or, you can get them from LinuxISO. I do not believe LinuxISO has the Source CDs, so you will just want to download the four "main" CDs.

Agreed..you want to use the binaries. The source CDs are just that...sources. There's no installation whatsoever.

Personally, I've never seen a need with Fedora to compile from the sources.

Just a thought, but you only need the first CD as you can do a...

linkux askmethod at the startup and load from the ISO images themselves.
