I have installed Ubuntu 6.06 on a PC as the only OS. Ubuntu installed very easily and quite quickly. It automatically detected my wireless adapter card and instantly made connection to my wireless home network once fed the SSID and key. Afterwards, I was able to "wirelessly" connect to the internet and AOL to check my mail.

My problem is that I would like to print from the Ubuntu machine to one or both of the printers physically attached to an XP Pro machine that shares them with the other computers in my home network. I went through the throes of telling Ubuntu to connect to a network printer, including identifying the model of the printer and the name of the computer to which the printer is attached and the share name of the printer. Ubuntu put that printer in the list of printers. I selected print a test page which Ubuntu queued to the printer. But the test page never got to the printer. Although the printer in Ubuntu's list initially said Ready, after a few minutes on the printer's queue Ubuntu placed the printer in Paused mode.

Can someone tell me or point me to a web site that would give me detailed instructions on how to make the connection so that I can print from the Ubuntu machine.

Did you implement printer sharing on a network in XP?

Just found this:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Netwo ... gFromWinXP

This should walk you thru it.

I want to go from Ubuntu to XP. The article you site is for XP to Ubuntu. I'm going to hook a printer directly to Ubuntu, but I'd still appreciate some advice on how to print to my wireless network. Ubuntu picked up on the wireless network so quickly, but it can't get the printing issue through its thick skull :?

But, Nasty: that's for printing from an XP box to a printer attached to an Ubuntu box.

Hi Cup,

The very first line says:

Quote:
By following these steps, you will be able to share a printer from your Ubuntu computer so that Windows XP and Windows 2000 computers can print to it.

The way I understand this statement is that the Ubuntu system has the computer connected to it and win 2000 or Xp can print to it.

I have been wrong many a time in the past for sure, shrug ... maybe again

The XP Box is attached to the printer, the Ubuntu box is the one he is starting the print command from. He wants to do the opposite of the article you linked to Nasty.
