I loaded Knoppix on my old parts rig for folidng purposes the other day. The network was pretty easy to set up using Samba.
This morning I pluged it in and turned it back on after a long night of T-Storms.
When I went to check the FAH on that old parts rig over the network on my new rig, Explorer hung, then crashed.
So, I checked out the old parts rig, thinking that it had froze or somthing. What I found was that it was performing normally, with one exception, no network.
Not only no network, but no internet. I've got the thing plugged straight into a 2Wire Wirless router using CAT-5 cable. Everything is the same as it was yesterday, just no net access.
The nic is an onboard nic on my Abit NV7-133R. It's only given me about 3 months of service, as I could not use it under Win 98, and I swapped out the mobo soon after getting XP.
Well, if I don't hear anything encouraging in the next 6 hours, then I'll go buy a WI-FI card on Newegg. It's gonna cost me about $25 though
I know I could stay wired, but I'd like to move this thing down to the basement anyway.
BTW, I can still see the shared drives here in XP, and the light is still on in the back of the nic.
