I attempted to install linux on a 4g partition. The installation was not successful. There is still a linux partition on my drive which is a 20g. 16g is used for windows xp. When I boot I get a grub prompt and I don't know how to get my system to boot to windows. :(

You need to remove grub from the MBR. You can either

...use a plain ole windows 9x bootdisk and do a fdisk /mbr

...or boot off the XP CD-Rom, enter the repair console and do a fixmbr
