Ok, I need a simple, easy way to do QOS on RedHat 8.0. Prefer not to have to do a kernel recompile. I need it to either prioritize traffic via IP/MAC, or by type (only want to prioritize voip right now).

I would just throw up a linksys wrtg54 (bought one with qos in mind), but I think it just wouldn't work. Here's my setup:

ADSL modem -> Linux server eth1 -> Linux server eth0 -> everything else

I don't remember the ADSL modem model off-hand, but it has a "zipb" feature that lets me pass the actual IP on to the linux server. This lets the linux server handle nat and have direct access to the internet, where before the modem handled nat. I have two devices that do voip, one is the linux server itself and the other is a DTA310 from packet8 that is setup after the linux server. This is precisely my problem, I can't use a router with qos before the linux server (this would make the linux server have an internal IP, it needs at least one interface publicly accessible) or after the linux server (then the DTA310 can use qos, but the linux server is now left out).

Speed isn't that much of an issue, I have 1.5mb/s down and 512kb/s up. My ISP uses pppoa which is more efficient than pppoe so I am able to actually use most of my bandwidth. The linux server handles about half of our incoming calls. The DTA310 is used for our personal line and probably handles most outgoing calls.

So basically, I need a way to have the linux server give itself priority and then priority to the DTA310. Whether this is done by IP/MAC Address or tagging the packets doesn't matter (one small issue if done by IP address, all voip traffic on the linux server goes out eth1, which is a dynamic IP).

Impossible with a stock kernel under red hat, the QOS options are turned off. What is wrong with a kernel compile? Is this for a critical system at work where you need to jump through hoops to change kernels? Also remember to man iptables.
