I just finished installing Linux on an old laptop at work (333MHz Celeron). Anyway the display screen is way too small. Linux isn't using the entire LCD, there is about a 1-inch all around black border. This border surrounds KDE and text mode (login). What do I edit to make Linux occupy the entire screen?

Yeah latptops can be a pain in the ass ... I had this problem beofre on a friends laptop when he was using mandrake... basicly on his i had to corrrect the xconfig to the eaxt vertical and horizontal freq tfor that particular lcd screen. alot of video chips and do more than what the lcd physically allows

Edit:

Do you have a make and model for me to look up so i could help you correct your problem also what resolution is it at.

then i will be able to find out what type of lcd you are using what it is capable of so we can figue out why correct X settings for your laptop.

also i cant stress this highly enough it to get on irc ( via mirc on windows or Xchat or whatever your favorite irc clinet is and go to irc.freenode.net and go to the room called #slackware. The biggest group of people that will be able to help you out of any situation.

http://linux-on-laptops.com/

Frequently they will have the configurations and other things for lots of laptops.

I do need one more piece of information. if you could PM me with ther serial number from the unit as Gateway used a couple of different screens in the 2500 some had hpa screens other had tft. I can get the infomation from there site via the serial number. Gateway was awful for having one model number and having 20 different laptops under that model.

Funny thing is I just bought a solo 2500 of ebay that is a PIII 500mhz while others i seen are P1 200mhz.

But just pm that information and I can see if we cant help you out.
