I'm having a helluva time getting Firefox to even talk to CUPS. I'm trying to print to a network printer that works perfectly with everything else, but neither Firefox, nor Thunderbird will print to it.

I've tried setting the printer string in the about:config to kprinter, but that just crashes Firefox. Do any of you guys have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hmm, I got mine to work fine with CUPs once I got CUPs configured properly. Then again, I'm not using Firefox, I'm using Mozilla.

Did you use that web utility to configure cups? Once I got into that, it was a piece of cake!

My father's laptop was another story. I had to configure his Win XP to talk to Samba, to talk to CUPs to print off his laptop onto my printer.

Everything looked OK, but I couldn't get it to print. Finnaly, me and this nice guy in the Slackware channel narrowed it down to the fact that I replaced the ";" with a " ", instead of deleting the ";". So, there was a blank space in front of the line of code that told CUPs to use Octetstream, or somthing like that.

I used the CUPS web configuration, which was really easy. The kprinter configurator looked like it was working, but it never really made any changes to the core CUPS config that I could see.

I think all the Mozilla apps use the same print dialogs. Which 'printer' are you using in the print dialog in Mozilla? I have three or four lines in mine, but none of them really look like a CUPS command line...

As for the printer line that Mozilla is using, I believe it says "Postscript" though I have no idea why it would use that.

I'm in Win XP right now finishing something a video my mother wanted. I can't say for 100% that that is what it said, I'll have to go back to Linux to check it out.

Edit: just got back into Linux this morning. Yeah, it says "PostScript/Default" under printer. Hopethat works for you too!

I'm in a bit of a rush today, so I haven't been able to research your question properly ... sorry.

However, this website has been invaluable to me in setting up network linux printers. Hope it helps.

See ya'll next week.
