So I ordered a ThinkPad x120e, and while I'm waiting for it to get here I want to try some OS's on my main machine in a VM so I can get used to one before putting it on my ThinkPad. So I was wondering, what alternative OS is best on battery life? And how does it compare to Windows 7? Thanks bros.

*edit*
I'm willing to use anything as long as there are good sources for guides/tutorials.

Try Ubantu, Mandriva, Win7, Apple, and FreeBSD..and then just make an assumption based on those that that's what it's all about. Why make us do it?

Buy windows. Use it. Find issues. THEN we can find a debate.

Wow I'm not "making" you do anything, I just wanted some input and recommendations from experienced users. Oh well, it's not like I'm surprised people are jerks on an alternative OS board (and have bad grammar).

Your question is going to be too specific. I am sure you'll discover that there is no definitive answer out there even with some pretty good studies across several OSes and systems. Only way to know is to try it out for yourself with your hardware and software choices.

I'd bet serious $ you'd get different results than me.

Unfortunately the only thing you can do is find out for yourself.

Battery use is largely software (driver) specific. Windows tends to win this battle because the manufacturers put the most work into those drivers.
