This is getting on my nerves. i have a Panasonic PV-GS150 MiniDV Cam

The software included Motion DV Studio won't run in Wine, wont install in Win 7, has no updates for a version past win xp, wont run in Wine or Seven Compatibilites.

The cam isn't detected in usb mode in either system.
it has a Dv to firewire port and when i tried it in the shop it was detected in Imovie on a mac but i can't get it to be detected in Umbutu's Pitivi Video Editor, Windows movie Maker in 7, or Adobe frigging Premere CS3.

Is there a way to get Imovie on windows or linux?

Nope.

For Windows, try Adobe Premiere. However, since Microsoft clearly states that this camcorder is not compatible with Windows 7, you might be hosed.

The drivers that Panasonic provides and their associated software appear to be WinXP only.

I'd try kdenlive on linux for any sort of video editing. I haven't tried to import video with it, but it actually works for me (I was working with a DVD cam and preimported avi's)

thats the thing it isn't even recognized by premiere cs3, though i had a small breakthrough yesterday, using the usb cord but in playback not pc mode it was recognized by windows movie maker but it then said "this item is in use" so i couldn't actually import anything....arg....

If you don't have drivers for the hardware (and you don't for Win7), the software you use is irrelevant.

If the device driver does not match the device, you will receive odd errors .. including 'device in use' errors.

Firewire and USB are not devices .. they are protocols. If the device on the end of the pipe (firewire or USB) is not supported, the nature of the pipe is irrelevant.

Do you have linux drivers for the cam?

If not, you'll need to install either OSX or WinXP.
